Clean & Green

Downtown Memphis Commission advocates for keeping the public realm in Downtown Memphis clean, neat and attractive. To that end, DMC works with various government agencies to advocate for appropriate efforts being made to address health, cleanliness, and maintenance concerns, including:

  • Code Enforcement
  • General Services
  • Public Works
  • Anti-Neglect
  • Housing and Community Development
  • the Health Department, and
  • Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division.

Inspections are made routinely of the Central Business Improvement District, with special attention to vacant properties, trash and other sanitary concerns, graffiti, lighting deficiencies, and safety hazards on both public and private properties. Recommendations are submitted to both city services and private property owners and enhancements are actively pursued. Community Service Volunteers, such as inmates from the Shelby County Corrections Center and other volunteers, conduct weekly clean-up efforts.

Downtown Memphis commission has also contracted with a private landscaping firm to supplement and enhance the landscaping along the Main Street Mall, Civic Plaza, and Court Square.
  • Contact DMC's Operations Department to report anti-neglect, sanitation, graffiti and other issues.
